Shakarim University of Semey (SSUS) was established in 1995 as a result of integration of Pedagogical, Veterinary and Technological Institutes.

The University inherited long and rich history of those educational institutions.

Being formed in 1934, Semipalatinsk Pedagogical Institute was one of the oldest in Kazakhstan.

Semipalatinsk Veterinary Institute was opened in 1952 and Semipalatinsk Technological Institute dated back to the opening of Semipalatinsk branch of Dzhambul Technological Institute in 1963.

By Kazakhstan Republic Government Regulation of 13 November, 1995 and Decree of the Ministry of Education of 1 February, 1995, No. 304, Semey State University was established on the basis of three higher educational institutions integration – Pedagogical, Veterinary and Technological institutes.
